While the world is busy debating how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are falling behind in our schools, get busy making it a priority. While people make blanket statements like “Why aren’t women going into engineering more often?” We’re busy having Skype calls with women engineers. We’re busy DOING hands on science, so that ALL of our kids can be exposed to things that might interest them in future careers. Because this message that STEM is not for girls? It’s not something to talk about how to fix. It’s easy to fix. Make science happen in your classroom, for everyone. STEM isn’t something you have to “sell” kids on. STEM is engaging, exciting, and even fun. It’s problem solving, creating, designing, and learning. It’s not an ‘activity’ we do or a program we buy, STEM needs to be built into the daily culture of learning, because it’s a part of the daily learning in our world.
