I’m typically a big picture person. I like to visualize the endpoint. I’m motivated by knowing what’s ahead. I love to dream up big plans and then know that every day we’re on our way there. Like a long road trip. But lately, I’ve slowed down and I’m determined to notice the details more. Being present. The now.
Whether it’s the sweet little student who pointed at my headband and told me, “I can’t believe I just met an adult who wears flowers in her hair,” or the awesome kid who showed me a quicker way to locate apps on my Mac Book, these moments. They matter. The tiny conversations. The little actions. Everything adds up.
Our little moments are a part of their school experience. Memories. Thoughts. Shaping the future of those we work with. Because, every single second we are in the classroom, we have an opportunity. We can have an impact on another person, a student, a colleague, a parent. It’s always right there in front of us. Right now.
One day we’ll look back and it will be all the “now” that make up where we are. So it turns out, the “now” matters most of all.
I’m going to try to remember that. I don’t think it’s easy, but I think it’s important.
