The excitement at the start of a new school year is in the air. School supplies are out at the local stores. New markers. Fresh crayons. Colorful notebooks. Packs of pens. But along with those supplies, there is something more in the air. The anticipation of a new group of students. Whether you are teaching at a school where you have worked for many years, or this is your first year, the anticipation is always the same.
Meeting those students, saying hello, and getting to know each other. There is nothing as special or as important. Those days you will spend together will be part of memories you will have for the rest of your life and part of what makes each child who they are as they grow older. Your impact reaching far into the future, farther than any of us can imagine. Something we must never forget, nor ever take for granted.
Teaching is magical. A kind of magic that cannot be described, but is so wonderful you feel it in your soul. The good days, the hard days, the happy days, and the impossible days. We are fortunate enough to be along on a beautiful journey to learn. Experiencing their growth, witnessing their struggle, and supporting them as they learn to fly on their own. Then one day, seemingly overnight, they fly from our classrooms. A little bigger, a little wiser, and a lot more a part of our heart than when they arrived.
They spread their wings and fly, and remind us once again that every bit of what we do is worth it, right from the start.
