This photo means the world to me. It’s ordinary to most. Grass. Sky. Outside. A kid rolling down a hill. But that kid? It was her first time rolling in the grass. She was never a fan of the blades of grass poking her skin, of the way the stray pieces stuck to her clothes, nor of the strong scent of fresh cut grass as your nose passes each turn. There are a million reasons why rolling down a hill was never fun for her before. Until today. This is a photo of all the things she has overcome. Of her ability to find joy in the simple moments, without letting the interferences of our world steal it away. It’s a photo of how big one tiny moment can really be. It’s embracing the uncomfortable and realizing that’s where life is. It’s her, being herself. And enjoying it.
And once again, I learn from my daughter. And I catch some of her joy. Because joy, afterall, is highly contagious.
